Message from our Founder & President

When I started Ilmi City, I had a vision to improve the lives of children across Pakistan. We have evolved as an organisation over the years, starting from educating working children to turning around government schools to now focusing on reforming the education system. I am proud of the change we have been able to bring about, both in creating models that give a reason to believe and in achieving gains in school governance or child protection through our advocacy. I hope and pray and work every day to make sure we continue to adapt to best serve our children.

Tajwar Hashmi – ACA
CFO & Director Operations
Syed Tajwar Hashmi leads Ilmi City’s finance and operations. In his role he oversees the organisation's overall growth and ensure the highest level of fiscal accountability and transparency at the Trust. Prior to joining Ilmi City, Tajwar has 15 years of demonstrated history of working in the sectors of International Trade, Hospitality and Education to streamline business operations that drive growth and increase efficiency. Tajwar began his career in the assurance group of A.F.Ferguson & Co. (PwC) and is a member of ICAP.

Zohra Nasir
Director Academics
Zohra Nasir is an educator with 12 years of field experience in curriculum development, teaching, and teacher education, Zohra is a Fulbright scholar, with an M.Ed in Learning and Design from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. Her work experience spans across Teach for Pakistan, The Citizens Foundation, Durbeen and HHS School System. As Director Academics for Ilmi City, she is striving to create a shift towards play-based, exploratory, 21st century learning that is rigorous, meaningful, and joyful.

Shehzad Roy
Founder & President
>Shehzad Roy is a Pakistani singer-songwriter, musician, activist, social worker and humanitarian. In 2005, he received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his sociopolitical music and his contribution to the field of education reform. He has also received the Sitara-e-Eisaar for his contribution to the relief efforts for earthquake in Kashmir. In 2018, he received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his work in education reform through advocacy, especially for his work on the integration of Child Protection into the provincial curriculum of Sindh. In 2021, not only the Sindh Government approved a new "Teacher Performance Evaluation" format developed by Ilmi City for Government Teachers across the province but also the National Assembly recognized his efforts and passed a law criminalizing Corporal Punishment. He is also the Goodwill Ambassador for United Nation Population and Family Planning (UNFP).

In addition to serving on the board of Ilmi City, Khalid Mahmood is the Managing Director & CEO of Getz Pharma Pvt. Ltd . From 2013 to 2015, he has also contributed his services as the former President of the World Wide Fund for Nature - Pakistan (WWF-P). He was recently awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for his contribution to improve the health and economic well-being of Pakistan.
In addition to serving on the board of Ilmi City, Khalid Mahmood is the Managing Director & CEO of Getz Pharma Pvt. Ltd . Nazim Hussain Haji
Trustee
Nazim Haji is the Co-Chairman of The Cancer Foundation and Director of Sahil Welfare Association as well as the Vice President of the Limbless Foundation Pakistan. He serves on the governing body of Infaq Foundation, the Centre for Development of Social Services and is also a Trustee of Aitemaad Pakistan Trust. Nazim was also one of founding members of the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) & was awarded Sitar-e-Shujaat in 1993 for his efforts as the Chief of CPLC.

Numan Nabi leads one of the largest communications groups in Pakistan & is the CEO of The Brand Partnership Pvt. Ltd. He is also the Board of Trustee at Organization for Social Development Initiatives and is one of the founding members of Friends of Cardiac Surgery. Being a staunch advocate of quality education, he has been actively supporting the efforts of Ilmi City in reforming public schools across Pakistan.
Numan Nabi leads one of the largest communications groups in Pakistan & is the CEO of The Brand Partnership Pvt. Ltd.
